A group of armed Naxals stormed into an iron ore mining area of public sector mining giant NMDC in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district and torched a poclain machine on fire, police said on Thursday.
“A group of insurgents raided Deposit-14 of the NMDC located in the interiors of Kirandul under Bailadila hills mining area late on Wednesday night and torched the machine engaged in excavation work,” a senior police official said.
Immediately, on sensing the presence of Maoists, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel rushed to the spot and opened fire on the insurgents following which they fled into the nearby dense forests, the official added.
later, police personnel were too reached to the spot as reinforcement, he said, adding, a combing operation had been launched in the region, located around 450 kms away from Raipur .
NMDC which has several massive mines at Bacheli and Kirandul areas in Dantewada district, has witnessed several major attacks by Naxals on their mining facilities in recent years which has severely affected its iron ore mining work as well as transportation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Mailee Nareti alias Dayalu (25) resident of Ghumra village under Siksod police station was arrested during a search operation carried out by the District Police, Superintendent of Police Kanker RN Dash informed.
The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Bhanupratppur had issued two warrants against him for his involvement in incidents like attempt to murder, brawl and handling deadly arms, the Dash stated. In another action, a joint team of Border Security Force (BSF) and District Force (DF) nabbed four Naxals from Sulengi village under Koilibeda police station.
The held ultras were identified as Ram Prasad Teta of Khanspara Sulengi, Dalpat Usendi, Ramdayal Uike, Bajaru Ram Teta all residents of Sulengi village. Ramprasad, Dalpat and Ramdayal were involved in attack on police party in Hanuman Tekri near Sulengi in February 2008, wherein a head constable had died while another one was injured, the SP said.
