Pilgrims' movement to be tracked using wireless devices

Saturday, 31 May 2014 | Rajendra S Markuna | Haldwani

With a view to ensuring a safe and smooth journey of the Greater Himalayas, the authorities concerned will track the movements of the pilgrims of the Holy Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage during their Himalayan sojourn with the  help of wireless communication devices, putting in place necessary ground safety staff.

“Each batch of the pilgrims of the Holi Kailash Mansarovar 'yatra' accompanied by security staff on way to the Kailash Mansarovar will be equipped with wireless sets,” said R l Sharma, Superintendent of Police , Pithoragarh.

More so, he added, “necessary police force will also be deployed on all important destinations on way to the Kailash Mansarovar to ensure a safe and hassle free pilgrimage for the devotees.” Owing to poor communication network in the upper Himalayan ranges, wireless communication devices are being used to strengthen the communication services there during the Kailash Mansarovar yatra which is likely to begin on June 12.

In the meantime, the district administration Pithoragarh has also directed the officials concerned of various departments like PWD, health to name a few to take necessary steps to strengthen basic infrastructure on the Kailash Mansarovar route so that the said annual pilgrimage could be completed in a smooth and safe  manner. It is worth mentioning here that the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam(KMVN) looks after the hospitality aspect including travelling of this Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.

“As many as 18 batches i.e. 60  pilgrims in each batch, would go on the holy Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage this year too, as the officials concerned of the KMVN informed. It is to note that earlier only 16 batches of pilgrims used to go on this annual Holy Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. But from last year, the number of batches of pilgrims has been raised upto 18. So, this year too as many as 18 batches of pilgrims would be sent on this pilgrimage,” added the officials concerned.

It is also to note that whereas earlier the said pilgrimage used to commence from New Delhi on June 1, since last year the timing of the said holy pilgrimage had been rescheduled starting it from June 12. So timing of commencement of this aforesaid holy pilgrimage will remain same i.e. June 12 this year too. The pilgrimage of the Kailash Mansarovar commences from New Delhi and is conducted under the overall supervision of the Ministry of External Affairs.

At the same time the pilgrimage route starts from New Delhi to the Kailash Mansarovar via different hill tourist destinations ncluding Almora, Dharchula,  Narayan  Ashram, Sirkha, Gala, Bundi, Gunji, Nabhidhang, lipupass  and then the holy shrine, Kailash Mansarovar.

It may be recalled that last year the holy Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage had to be cut short on account of devastating natural disaster that Uttarakahnd had to face during monsoon season.

But this year, as the officials concerned hope, the pilgrimage would be completed smoothly. So keeping in view the past experiences the authorities concerned  seem to have put the safety measures like use of modern wireless network in place, apart from deployment of necessary manpower including security staff for safety and security of the pilgrims.
