SDRF to be deployed during Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra

In order to complete Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra peacefully, State Additional Director General of Police Ram Singh Meena presided over a meeting with police officers and gave them necessary instructions. “A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will be deployed on routes of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra scheduled to begin from August 18,” he said. Those undertaking this Yatra cover about 243 kilometres on foot in 22 days. In view of large numbers of pilgrims expected to participate in Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, the police officers were directed to complete all the preparations for this yatra. Elaborate security arrangements will be put in place and adequate number of armed police and civil police will be deployed on the yatra route, he added.

Meena said that the police will use wireless sets and satellite phones in high altitude areas of the yatra route where mobile phone connectivity is poor. Along with Uttarakhand armed police and civil police, SDRF personnel will conduct recce of these routes before start of this yatra.The district police heads have been directed to take measures for ensuring peaceful conduct of this yatra in the State. Among those present in the meeting were IG Deepam Seth, DIG, Garhwal, Amit Sinha, DIG (SDRF) Sanjay Gunjyal, SDRF battalion commandant P Renuka Devi and SP Janmejaya Khanduri and others.

The sacred Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra 2014 will start on August 18 and will be completed on September 6. Held once every 12 years, this yatra begins from Nauti village near Karnprayag and passes through various high

altitude areas.
