Madhu Jayanti observed in Paradip

Paradip: The Paradip Saksharata Samiti celebrated the 168th birthday anniversary of Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das here on Tuesday.  Jyotshnarani Dixit was chief guest and short storywriter Rabi Swain chief speaker. The guests spoke on the life and contributions of Madhubabu to the State of Odisha. All members of the Samiti and Mahila Samiti offered rich tributes to Madhubabu and stressed on the role of the present generation in building a strong State as well as a nation. Ashok Mohapatra presided over the event. Poets Tulasi Baral and Golaprani Sahoo and journalists Dhruba Charan Mohapatra and Prasanta Rout were also present.

K'jhar school kids pay tribute to Madhubabu

Keonjhar: Students of the Vidya Bhawan paid rich tribute to patriot and freedom fighter Madhusudan Das on his 167th birth anniversary observed at Khudaposi in Keonjhar on Tuesday. On the occasion, competitions on debate, drawing, fancy dress, patriotic song was held among the school students and winners were later distributed with prizes by guests. The day observed as Swabhiman Dibas was organised in collaboration with the daily Sambad. Subrat Rout, Sudhanshu Sahoo, Bhimsen Mahanta from the Sambad and Dhirendra Rout, Alekh Chandra Mishra, Malaya Mohapatra and Antaryami Sahoo were present as guests.

lawyers' Day observed in Baleswar

Baleswar: The District Bar Association observed the lawyers' Day and birth anniversary of Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das on Tuesday.  The lawyers' body held a seminar on the occasion where High Court Judge Justice Raghubir Das and several other eminent personalities deliberated on the topic 'Judicial Impropriety'. Association president Niranjan Panda and secretary Manoj Nayak coordinated the event.    

UCO Bank opens multi-facility centre

Baleswar: The UCO Bank opened a multi-facility centre 'e-lobby' at its main branch at Motiganj in Baleswar on Tuesday. Bank's Bhubaneswar Circle head BP Samanatry inaugurated the facility in the presence of bank's Zonal Manager Tapal Pal and Chief Manager R Malathi. The lobby houses an ATM and machines for cash deposit, cheque deposit and for pass book updating. The UCO bank here is the first one to provide such facilities under one roof, where customers can avail all these facilities without help of any bank officials, said Raghumani Maohapatra, a senior officer of the bank.

Wesco JE held for taking bribe

Rourkela: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested Wesco lepripada Section Junior Engineer Sukanta Kumar Deuri for taking bribe for shifting a transformer at Mahulpali village. The villagers had requested the JE for steps for shifting of the transformer to middle portion of village so that regular low voltage in power supply which they are facing won't occur. But he demanded Rs10,000 as bribe, and after negotiation he finally agreed to take Rs5,000.
