Keeping in view the huge population of stray dogs which is estimated at 25 lakh in the State, the Haryana Government has decided to implement National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) under which immunisation of stray dogs would be done and scientific methods will be adopted to sterilise the dogs.
A meeting in this regard was held between Haryana Chief Secretary DS Dhesi and chairman of Animal Welfare Board of India, Major General Dr RM Kharb here on Thursday.
It was informed in the meeting that initially NRCP would be implemented in Hisar and Gurgaon division. For implementation of this programme, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has earmarked a sum of Rs30 crore in the State for mass vaccination and sterilisation. Two monitoring and coordinating committees will be constituted for ensuring total transparency in the implementation of the programme.
The State-level monitoring cum coordinating committee will comprise of Principal Secretaries of Animal Husbandry, Urban local Bodies and Panchayats and Rural Development.
Similarly, Divisional Commissioner of the respective division will look after the overall coordination of District level Monitoring cum Coordinating Committee.
