Initially, the PGDM course was started here in 2010 followed by PGEXP in 2011, PGDHRM in 2012, and PGPEM in 2014. The outgoing PGDM batch has the highest number of students among all the IIMs.

Three international offers were made wherein the highest package standing is Rs55 lakh per annum. The institute since its inception in 2010 is functioning temporarily at the sixth and fifth floor of Suchana Bhawan. In July 29, 2013 Union Minister Pallam Raju had laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of the institute at Cheri village of Kanke block on 90.14 acres land sanctioned by the Jharkhand government at free of cost. But, the construction is yet to begin due to some hurdles.
Sources maintained the cradle was in touch with Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) for providing a piece of land at Dhurwa. Prior to approaching HEC, IIM-R had published an advertisement for seeking rental space in Kanke road as it is suffering infrastructure crunch at Suchna Bhawan.
