A Mock exercise will be executed on October 12 at Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, State Police Headquarter and Central School for Tibetans by the State Disaster Management Authority with the support of stakeholders, line departments besides Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force and ITBP.
Presiding over the coordination conference and table top exercise on mock drill on terrorist attack at vulnerable locations in Shimla, Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Nanda said natural disasters could not be prevented, but the risk of loss of life and injury could be mitigated with good evacuation plans, environmental planning and design standards. She said that preparedness was the main way of reducing the impact of disasters. Community-based preparedness and management should be a high priority in physical therapy practice management, she added.
The official said that Special drive of disaster management under the banner of ‘SAMARTH-2015’ would be launched from 1-13 October for sensitizing and capacity building among masses in the State under which various programmes, workshops, rallies, events and mock drills etc. would be organized during two weeks State level campaign. These activities were designed to minimise loss of life and damage by facilitating timely and effective rescue, relief and rehabilitation.
Nanda appreciated the special efforts of the district administration and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for saving the lives of two labourers trapped in the under construction tunnel on the Kiratpur- Manali, four lane road project at Tihra village in Bilaspur district.
She said that various authorities particularly the authorities who were executing power and road projects in the State should strictly implement disaster plan.
