State OBC commission discusses inclusion of new groups

A press conference was conducted by the members of Other Backward Classes Commission, Government of Uttarakhand on Wednesday morning at the OBC Commission office, Dehradun, discussing various issues regarding the addition of community/groups from all over the State in the central list, reservation policies and their privileges. 

Dr Shakeel-uz-zaman Ansari, member of the National Commission for Backward Classes, Ashok Verma, chairman of OBC Commission of the state, vice chairman Shameem Ahmad Ansari and Vijendra Thapa, member of OBC Commission of Uttarakhand were present.

“Inspection of various areas of the State has been done.  Besides, we took stock of the pending work involving the State commission,” said Dr Shakeel-uz-zaman Ansari, member of NCBC. “Previously, A public hearing was conducted by the National Commission for Backward Classes in Dehradun on November 12, 2014, for consideration of inclusion of 32 communities/groups.”, he informed.

The commission said  that the State Government is free to do  inquiry to determine the groups to be declared as  backward classes “It is for the State commission to check whether they are socially and educationally backward enough to be included in the central list of OBCs for the State and submit survey reports to NCBC within the next six months,” added Ansari.               

According to reports by the State OBC commission, the survey was to be conducted on the following 17 groups/communities: Chihipa, Dangi, Idrisi, Joriya, Kadhyap, Katua, loniya-chauhan, Mahar/Gujar Mahara, Mahigeer, Meer Shikar, Nanbai, Nisad, Rankee/Gukerani, Ror, Rouniyar/Gandhi/Arrak, Panchal/Jagir, Tantava. “So far, only the survey reports by the district of Haridwar have been received by the commission,” informed Ashok Verma, chairman of OBC Commission, Uttarakhand.
