Two incidents of theft proved that the appartently-guarded Parliament is not free of thieves.
In two separate incidents, iPhones of Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP Sitaram Yechury and BJP MP Rama Devi were stolen from Parliament. Surprisingly both incidents occurred during the lunch break in the afternoon.
While Yechury's iPhone, which had his personal number, was stolen when he was in room number 135-136 of the Parliament House, MP Rama Devi's iphone was taken away from her office in room number 7 in Parliament.
A complaint to police was made by Yechury's secretary TV Thomas.
A police, who knows about the case, told The Pioneer that the case is very sensitive and investigation in the matter is on.
Though the complaint did not specify from where the cell phone went missing.
"Investigations are on and efforts are being made on recovering his phone as early as possible. Anyone's phone may have personal documents, images and other things. Calls were also made to his number but it was switched off," said police.
Yechury is a Rajya Sabha MP and general secretary of the CPI(M).
Meanwhile the second incident took place two days after Yechury's mobile phone was stolen.
"Devi had kept it on the table and had gone out to have her lunch but when she came back the phone was missing from the table. Devi started panicking," said police.
"I searched for my phone everywhere but could not find it anywhere. I suspect my phone might have been stolen and misused," alleged Devi in her complaint. Police said investigations are on in this case as well and CCTV footages in Parliament are being checked to nab the culprit.
Devi is the Member of Petroleum and Natural Gas Committee and a permanent advisor to the the Union Textile Ministry.
Police said the incidents have left them stumped. Police are also mulling to question employees of Parliament to nab the thieves.
