'Nandwani quitting is surprising, Front was dissolved in February'

Tuesday, 12 April 2016 | PNS | Dehradun

The United Front of Ex-Servicemen (UFESM) of Uttarakhand was dissolved unanimously in the month of February so there is no question of anyone resigning from it, said Brigadier RS Rawat (Rtd) while addressing newsmen here on Monday.

He said that the recent statement in a section of local media by Major General Chander Nandwani (Rtd), who incidentally was the president of the UFESM, that he is resigning from the UFESM is most unfortunate.

Rawat said that the statement of Major General Nandwani is surprising as it was he (Nandwani) who declared in a common forum attended by a large number of ex-servicemen that the UFESM stood dissolved in the month of February.

Gen Nandwani had recently said that since the objective of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) is achieved there is no point in continuing the agitation and some people with vested political interests are now sticking with agitation. Rawat said that Nandwani has raised his personal opinion.

One of a leading member of OROP movement Colonel P l Parashar (Rtd) said that the ex-servicemen of Uttarakhand are united and the struggle for remaining provisions of OROP would continue.  He said that the issues like annual revision of pensions, taking average of highest and lowest pensions and no representative of armed forces in decision making on OROP are still unresolved.

Major General lalji D Singh (Rtd), Brigadier K G Behl (Rtd) and Brigadier Vijay Kumar were present in the press conference.
