NTPC ltd's Korba Thermal Power Station would soon start working on implementing a ‘Waste Water Conservation Scheme’, official sources informed. Significant to mention here is that the NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA) is committed to developing new technologies for better utilisation and management of waste materials like effluent from power plant and municipal solid waste. NETRA is engaged in key activities of research and technology development, officials informed.The plant waste liquids are collected and disposed off by the stations.
In the changing environment it is being emphasised that plants should adopt zero liquid discharge. Also availability of water and its rising cost are going to be a major constraint for the power plants. Considering this NETRA is developing cost effective waste water recycling technologies by installing pilot demo plants at stations, officials informed.
A Research Advisory Council (RAC) comprising of eminent scientists and experts from India and abroad has been constituted to steer NETRA for high-end research. In-house Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) has also been constituted to provide directions for improving plant performance and reducing cost of generation.The key expertise lies in providing scientific support to stations for improving their life, performance and developing technologies for clean & economic power generation for the sustainable growth of power sector.
Notably, back in November 1995, NTPC brought out a comprehensive document entitled ‘NTPC Environment Policy and Environment Management System’. Amongst the guiding principles adopted in the document are the company's pro-active approach to environment, optimum utilisation of equipment, adoption of latest technologies and continual environment improvement.The policy envisages new technology initiatives and efficient utilisation of resources, thereby minimising waste, maximising ash utilisation and ensuring a green belt all around the plant for maintaining ecological balance.
On the other hand, NTPC ltd is expected to commence coal production from Talaipalli block in Raigarh district by November 2019 in Chhattisgarh, official sources informed.The company had been granted bridge linkage for seeking coal supply from the Talaipalli block by the Union Coal Ministry.The scheduled date of start of coal production from the coal block as per the Coal Mines Development and Production Agreement is financial year 2019-20.
Notably, the power to be generated by upcoming NTPC ltd’s 1600 MW Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) at lara in Raigarh district will be supplied to Chhattisgarh , Goa and Maharashtra states, officials stated. The project is most likely to go on stream by March 2017 , officials stated.The coal requirement for the proposed plant would be met from Talaipalli Coal Block of Mand in Raigarh Coalfields, they stated.
It may be recalled that NTPC’s upcoming lara STPP in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh has acquired all necessary clearances from the Union Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change for the project, officials stated.The lara plant of NTPC would be utilising super critical technology for power generation.
