State students excel in JEE Advanced 2017 exam

Proving their worth once again, hundreds of students from Jharkhand came out with flying colours in the JEE Advanced 2017 result announced on Sunday. Amal Prasad of the capital city secured All India Rank (AIR) 49 clinching the top slot in the State while Uddesh Katyayan scored 101 rank in the prestigious engineering entrance exam followed by Abhiuday Pandey, who got AIR 156.

A good number of students from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad and other districts this year cleared the JEE Advanced 2017. From FIIT-JEE Ranchi Centre alone as many as 132 aspirants qualified the JEE Advanced exam.

Students from several other reputed institutions like Sri Chaitanya, Akash Institute, Champ Square, Brothers Academy including other technical coaching institutes as well performed equally well in JEE Advanced 2017 grabbing decent ranks in the joint engineering entrance test.

Approximately, 115 students from Brothers Academy have qualified in the exam outshining their contenders. Out of these 115 students, around 81 students have secured AIR in the general category whereas the remaining 34 students have secured AIR in various reserved categories. 

From Champ Square 68 students cleared the exam with two students Yugesh Ajit Kothari and Mohit Gupta securing AIR 120 and 150 respectively.

Harsh Shah of DAV Public School, Pundag who grabbed the top slot in Ranchi District in science stream by scoring 97.8 per cent marks in All India Senior Secondary School Certificate Exam (AISSSCE) has cleared the JEE Advanced 2017 in his first attempt.

Setting an example for all his counterparts, Shah secured 234 marks out of 366 marks fetching AIR 2744. Shah aspires to pursue Computer Science Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kharagpur.

Continuing the trend of setting high standard in academics more than 80 students from Delhi Public School, Ranchi this year as well has cracked JEE Advanced exam. Five students of the school have secured ranks within 1000. Anirudh Anil Ojha of DPS Ranchi got AIR 172 while Ayush Kumar got AIR 194, followed by Mayank Kumar rank (AIR- 827), Nishant Singh Chouhan (AIR- 936), Pratimesh Singh (AIR – 942) and Snehan AIR 62 (in SC category).

Dr. Ram Singh, Principal of the school congratulated the students and appreciated the efforts of teaching staffs and parents for this great achievement. It was indeed a matter of immense pride for the school that such a huge number of students have qualified one of the prestigious exams, said the Principal.

Students of Bokaro district too made their mark in the exam. As many as 65 students from DPS, Bokaro qualified in the JEE Advanced.  Aditya Mishra stole the show by becoming the district topper with All India Rank 182 while Dipesh Kumar secured 654 All India Rank (AIR). Dr. Hemlata S Mohan, Director, and Principal of DPS Bokaro expressed immense happiness on this achievement of the DPS students and congratulated them.

Similarly, 250 students from Jamshedpur district cracked the JEE Advanced 2017. Out of 1,013 students who appeared for JEE Advanced, around 250 candidates could make it to the final all India rankings. Yugesh Kothari, a student of Hill Top School, secured 120 rank bagging top position in district. Kothari had scored 97 per cent in ISC science stream this year.

“I am not overall satisfied with my performance. As per my calculation I should have got 90 rank. However, I have no choice but to be happy with it,” said Yugesh. Son of Tata Steel employee, Ajit Dhanraj Kothari desires to pursue computer science engineering from IIT-Delhi. The second closest rank was scored by Rohan Arihan from Central Public School, Adityapur who scored AIR 505. last year the highest rank in the city was 322.

“We are happy with the overall performance. The trend was a bit different and easy going this time,” said Pramod Dubey, Director, Prerna Classes. Mohit Kumar Gupta from DAV Public School Bistupur emerged as second city topper with an AIR 150.

The total marks for JEE paper I and II was 366. The cut off marks this year was 128 for general category while the cut off marks of OBC reached 115, while 64 marks was kept for SC, ST including for the differently-abled students. The cut off marks this year was the highest in the past three years. The marks of a candidate in JEE Advanced Paper-I and Paper-II have been taken into consideration for calculating the ranks.

Notably, five students of ‘CCl Ke lal’ qualified JEE Advanced 2017. CCl Ke lal is an CSR initiative wherein students from Weaker section of society are selected and provided with free lodging, boarding, schooling and coaching for IIT JEE. Three officers of Central Coalfields ltd (CCl) namely, Jitendra Kumar, Akhilesh Kumar and Nmana Shrivastav who are also IIT graduates  provide coaching.

The JEE Advanced rank holders are eligible for admission in leading government and private technical institutes in the country, including the National Institutes of Technology (NIT). All the candidates who have cracked the JEE Advancedd will appear for counseling and accordingly the rank holders will be allotted seats in the technical institutes spread across the country.
