CM visits food poisoning victims in Haldwani hospital

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat along with local MLA Arvind Pande and Bharatiya Janata Party State president Ajay Bhatt, visited the persons undergoing treatment at Sushila Tiwari medical college hospital in Haldwani due to food poisoning in a marriage function. A day after three persons died from the food poisoning, the Chief Minister directed the doctors to ensure effective and timely treatment of those undergoing treatment for food poisoning.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met the people undergoing treatment at the Sushila Tiwari hospital in Haldwani after being afflicted by food poisoning at a marriage programme in Basti village of Bageshwar district. He sought information from the hospital administration about the medical facilities being rendered to the affected patients.

Enquiring about the well being of the patients at the hospital in Haldwani, the Chief Minister also instructed the doctors to provide best medical help to the victims.

He said that it is the priority of the State Government is to provide effective treatment to the food poisoning patients. He said that compensation would be paid as per the rules to the bereaved families of those who had died due to food poisoning and all other victims will be treated free of cost by the state government.

Chief Minister said that the state government and the administration stands with the victims in their hour of sorrow. He instructed the Kumaon commissioner and secretary to the CM, Rajeev Rautela to personally supervise the medical facilities being given to the patients and ensure that the patients and their relatives who are looking after them do not face any kind of problem.   

During the inspection, medical superintendent of the Sushila Tiwari medical college hospital, Dr Arun Kumar Joshi informed that a total of 42 patients were admitted in the hospital out of whom two-a woman and a child had died. He assured the Chief Minister that food poisoning patients would be given best of treatment by the doctors and management of the hospital.

It will be recalled that about 250 persons had fallen ill after consuming food at a marriage function at Basti village in the Kapkot block of Bageshwar district on November 29. On the instructions of the chief minister, the seriously ill were air lifted to the government hospital in Haldwani. Samples of the food from the marriage function were also sent to the laboratory for testing.
