DMs submit affidavit in HC on polythene ban implementation

Wednesday, 26 September 2018 | PNS | Nainital

In the matter of the ban on the use of polythene in Uttarakhand, all District Magistrates submitted affidavits in the High Court of Uttarakhand informing the court about the measures taken so far to enforce the ban. In their affidavits, the District Magistrates have stated that orders passed earlier by the high court are being fully observed.

In order to completely ban the use of polythene, those found using it are being challaned. The public is also being informed about the ill-effects of using polythene.

Public awareness campaign is also being undertaken on this subject, apart from which nodal officers have also been appointed for implementation of the ban on polythene.

Earlier, the division bench had directed all the District Magistrates to also undertake public awareness campaigns for effectively implementing the polythene ban.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently, the State Finance, Parliamentary Affairs, Potable Water and Sanitation Minister Prakash Pant had chaired a meeting with officials in which it had been stated that the complete ban on storage, sale and marketing of polythene bags will be strictly enforced in the State.

It was also decided in the meeting that in compliance of the orders of the High Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT), notification will be issued soon.
