Maoist menace can’t be solved with bullet: Sahay

Wednesday, 31 October 2018 | Staff Reporter | Raipur

Maoist menace cannot be eliminated with bullet but could be resolved only through development of insurgency-infested regions, said senior Congress leader and Former Union Minister of Home Affairs Subodh Kant Sahay.

Addressing a Press conference here at State Congress Office here on Tuesday,

Sahay charged that the ruling BJP government had failed to tackle the Maoist menace in the State.

“It is an economic problem and could be resolved only by development of the affected region,” he said.

The problem which persisted only in three of the districts of the state has now spread its tentacles in 15 of the districts and the home district of Chief Minister Raman Singh itself is  worst affected, he charged.

Citing that he was holding charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs in worst ever times when extremists were creating a lot of problem, he claimed that the Punjab issue was solved by them successfully through ensuring development.

Chhattisgarh was formed in a bid to fulfill the aspirations of majority of tribal people but the BJP in its 15 year rule had failed to do that, he charged.

The expansion of the Naxal problem was only because of that, he said.

He also came down heavily on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre for stopping various welfare schemes initiated by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.

He alleged that the BJP-led NDA government allegedly paralyzed the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA). The poor people here too in Chhattisgarh were not provided employment in the worst condition of drought, he said.
