Raigarh’s former MLA quits BJP

Friday, 26 October 2018 | Staff Reporter | Raigarh

Former BJP MLA from Raigarh, Vijay Agrawal has resigned from the party while being angry over being denied a party ticket to contest Assembly polls for the second time in a row.

He had sent a letter while resigning from the primary membership of the party to State BJP President Dharamlal Kaushik and decided to contest polls as Independent candidate.

Notably, Vijay Agrawal was BJP MLA from 2003 to 2008 from Raigarh.

In year 2008, the BJP gave party ticket to Roshan Agrawal replacing him. In the year 2013, Roshan Agarwal was repeated as party candidate for the Assembly polls.

As per party insiders, in year 2008 also Vijay Agrawal had raised the rebellion for giving party ticket to Roshan Agrawal in year 2013. But then, state level party leaders did some political manoeuvring against some party candidates by rejecting their candidature.

The party leaders had stated that those candidates having lost the election with more than 10,000 margin of votes have been denied the party ticket. So, Vijay Agarwal was not left with anything to speak about.

But this time, the BJP altered the policy where it had given party ticket even to the former MLAs having lost election in year 2013.

This is the reason why Vijay Agrawal had raised the issue while stating that people’s sentiment is not being considered.

Meanwhile, as per political sources, now it has become a fight between two business communities — one local and the others who had arrived and settled from Odisha.
