‘Highlight party work through ads, posters’

Sunday, 08 September 2019 | Sapna Singh | NEW DELHI

Noting that the freebies and poll sops being doled out by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi were a challenge to the BJP, it's poll in-charge in Delhi, Prakash Javadekar has asked the State BJP unit to improve its visibility among voters as well as through advertisements and campaigns.

In his first interaction with Delhi BJP team, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar asked partymen to take on the AAP and the Congress through poster campaigns, public outreach programmes and advertisement of good works of the Modi Government.

Sources said Javadekar also told BJP leaders to be conscious of the fact that the Kejriwal Government has been successful in hogging limelight with freebies abnounced in recent times. "Jo dikhta hai wo hi bikta hai", he reportedly told BJP leaders.

In the ongoing meetings with district level meeting, Javadekar also asked BJP workers to highlight local issues of Delhi, for instance, unauthorised colonies and spread the work done by Modi Government in past five years.

So far, Javadekar has attended three district level meetings, conducting in West Delhi and Chandni Chowka and Ashok Nagar and will conduct fourth meeting on Sunday.

Party office-bearers said that to reach every individual in Delhi, the Social media room will be revived. "A meeting focus on how to revive IT cell will also take place on Sunday in which Central BJP leaders will participate," a BJP leader said.

Interestingly, at time when Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) lost former chairperson and iconic leader Sheila Dikshit, BJP leaders still believe that Congress will also remain active in triangular fight in upcoming Assembly elections.

Delhi election in-charge Javadekar and Hardeep Singh Puri both asked BJP worker to show up the arrest of senior congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in corruption charges in INX media case.

Moreover, in evolving political state of affairs ahead Assembly elections in Delhi, the interim President of Indian National Congress (INC) Sonia Gandhi also met Congress leaders to build consensus over the new DPCC chief's post.

As per the sources, Congress leaders Narendra Nath, Ramakant Goswami, Mangat Ram Singhal and Kiran Walia had a one hour meeting at Gandhi's residence.

Party sources also hint about the selection of Ajay Makan as DPCC chief again.

The post of State Congress unit chief is vacant since the demise of three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on July 20.
