20-foot-long python rescued in Mansa Devi

A giant rock python approached a home in the Mansa Devi area which falls under the Rishikesh forest range. The large reptile entering a residential locality in the area causing some fear among the locals who informed the forest department. After seeing the rock python, people informed it to the forest department, after which the forest department team reached the spot. The forest department team captured the python which was found to be 20 feet in length. The reptile was later released in the forest.

Mansa Devi beat officer, Mansaram Gaur, said that a local youth had reported that a giant python had been seen outside someone's house in the residential locality. After getting the information, Gaur reached the spot along with his team.

Spotting the reptile, he recognised it as a rock python about 20 feet in length. After efforts which lasted about an hour, the forest department team managed to capture the python when it was trying to enter the bushes.

Ten members of the departmental team had to put in considerable effort to control the snake weighing about 100 kilogramme. The python was later released in the forest area away from the residential localities. It is pertinent to mention here that pythons are found in the Terai region of Uttarakhand.
