The Bhilai Steel Plant on Saturday introduced computerised gate pass system to avoid duplication, further augmenting security in the largest unit of the public sector Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
The system was inaugurated by chief executive officer of the Bhilai plant A. K. Rath in presence of PK Dash, executive director (works), BP Nayak, ED (finance and accounts), AK Kabisatapathy, ED (projects), S K Khairul Basar, ED (materials management), Dr SK Issar, director in-charge (medical and health services), KK Singh, ED (personnel and administration), U K Sarkar DIG, CISF and other senior officers of the BSP and the Central Industrial Security Force, according to a BSP press release.
The provisions and features of the new system were explained by the C and IT team through a presentation.
The gate passes for contract labour working in operations area and projects area were, so far, prepared through different computerised systems for different types. The gate pass for the HSCL labour were prepared manually.
The new computerised system integrates the process of pass preparation for contract labour, with effective use of Aadhar number.
The system will ensure that at one-time only one valid pass is issued to one contract labour.
In the newly developed module, checks have been placed to ensure that a new gate pass is issued only if there is no other valid gate pass against that Aadhar number.
While implementing the checks, some duplicate gate passes were identified. These are being investigated by Contract Labour Cell, the BSP. The gate pass for HSCL contract labour has also been computerised and all new passes will be prepared by the HSCL through the new system.
The system also has provision for blacklisting any contract labour found involved in criminal activities.
The CEO, BSP, appreciated the new system and called upon the team for further enhancements. The system has been developed in-house by the C&IT team.
