Entrepreneurship course from April

Friday, 08 February 2019 | Sapna Singh | NEW DELHI

In one of its kind initiative, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Government has approved the framework for the ‘entrepreneurship curriculum’. The State Council1 of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in its governing council meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also decided that the entrepreneurship curriculum will have no examinations, books or evaluation system.

According to Delhi Government spokesperson, the framework has been finalised by a 16-member committee comprising of SCERT teachers, National Council of Educational Research and training (NCERT) teachers working on entrepreneurship, teachers of prominent private schools and many experts of the field.

“The curriculum will be launched in 15 to 20 schools in April as a pilot and the full-fledged launch will be done in all Delhi government schools in July,” said Delhi government, adding, “The entrepreneurship curriculum will be based on activity and there would be no evaluation, examination and books for the curriculum. It will be based on syllabus and learning sessions.”

Another novel initiative of the AAP government ‘Happiness Curriculum’  is being taught to the students from nursery to class 8th; while the entrepreneurship curriculum will be taught from class 9th to class 12th to equip the students to face the challenges of life after education in a better way. Entrepreneurship curriculum comes as the latest to equip and enhance the Delhi government students after the huge success of happiness curriculum in Delhi government schools.

Sisodia who also holds the education minister said, “This initiative will open up a world of possibilities for the Delhi government schools as they explore various options and choose their profession. While this scientifically prepared curriculum is aimed at preparing the students better for their choice of professional journeys, it will invariably bring about a paradigm shift in the education system.”

“This curriculum is important because of the changing face and rapid pace of technology and also of the realities of today and tomorrow. The companies which are on top today might not exist after 25-years, they may be replaced by ventures that are at the start-up stage today,” Sisodia added.
