Wednesday, 11 December 2019 | PNS | PHULBANI

The case of death of a minor Christian girl in Kandhamal district got a dramatic twist and the body was exhumed from the graveyard by police on Monday.

This was done when 22 months after the girl’s demise her parents alleged that she was murdered by her brother-in-law.

Reports said JS Celebrate of Kumbharkupa village, a Plus Two first year student, had been found hanging in her house on February 1, 2018. Family members after the necessary rituals had buried the body assuming that she committed suicide.

They suspected foul play and lodged a police complaint alleging that Celebrate’s brother-in-law, Smarjit Nayak murdered her. Acting on the complaint, Kandhamal police registered a case and exhumed the body. It was sent to the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Brahamapur for postmortem.

Later, the accused was detained by police for questioning.
