As per the data provided by the State Meteorological Centre, the volume of rainfall received this winter is much more than that of the previous year which is going to help the farmers in many ways. Such a volume of rain the state received last in 2013, the Met officers said.
State Meteorological Centre director Bikram Singh said, “The amount of rainfall received in this winter season is good for agriculture. It is also good as it keeps the mercury down. What usually happens is that the mercury starts to rise by the middle of March, but this time the temperature is dropping in the evening. The cases of forest fire start from March, but as the soil is holding good moisture this time no big case has come to light as yet. The rain activity is likely to continue till the end of March. The temperature will start rising from the first week of April.”
Talking more about it, a scientist working in the State Meteorological Centre Rohit Thapliyal said, “The amount rainfall received this winter is good enough for the farmers. The apple growers would be benefitted the most.”
