Enhancing the basic urban utility networks ensuring uniform municipal planning, the State’s biggest Urban Local Body (ULB) has espoused a new mode to avert drainages clogging. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is the first civic body of Jharkhand to take up the initiative of drainages mapping besides just accomplishing the project of constructing drainages, releasing monetary assistance at a regular interval for restructuring the drains.
Drainage clogging is one of the most common civic problems during the monsoons here that often create mess for the public while appearing as a major challenge for the RMC. In the first of its kind attempt, the civic guardians will draft a proper blueprint of all drains covering all 53 wards after completing the survey.
The Municipal Corporation has roped in over 117 students of Department of Geography of Marwari College, Ranchi for the comprehensive survey in association with the staffs of RMC. In accordance to RMC City Manager (Sanitation Cell), the assessment of all drainages is likely to get complete within 10 days. Each student engaged in this project will get a stipend of Rs. 2,000.
“On April 16, a consolidated report will be submitted to RMC Officer (Health) describing all details. During the survey, details like total number of drainages, number of streets, sources of drainages and its main points, areas with maximum and minimum drainages will be described in the report,†said RMC City Manager (Sanitation Cell), Sandeep Kumar.
“The survey would not only aid in maintaining a proper record but will help the Municipal Corporation in deploying labourers including other resources in accordance to the requirement of each ward,†added Kumar.
However, this is not for the first time when the civic body has made an attempt to document the status of drainages in the State Capital, since 2018, the officials here are trying to accomplish the task of mapping drainages across Ranchi.
