With polling date for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 less than a week away, various government departments are busy preparing for the big day. In Dehradun, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) nowadays is busy sending vehicles for the transportation of officials concerned, police, home guards and polling parties. RTO has acquired about 1200 buses (city and school), taxies and vikrams for Dehradun district.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Arvind Pandey told this correspondent that they have acquired almost every vehicle that was required. He added, “In fact transportation of police has been going on, since they require forces from outside too. Sector, zonal, magisterial teams and micro observers have also been assigned vehicles. For home guards, departure of vehicles will be done in a day or two. Only the vehicles for polling parties will depart on April 11.”
When asked about the reserve vehicles he said that about 10 per cent of the acquired vehicles have been kept in reserve in case there is some emergency.
The acquired vehicle owners get paid two to three months after elections. Giving details about this he said,“When the department will receive budget, the district election officer will distribute the amount among all acquired vehicle owners.
