The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has asked Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Digvijay Chautala to appear personally in the commission on Monday for his alleged indecent remarks on Haryanvi singer and dancer Sapna Choudhary who had recently joined the BJP on July 7.
HSCW vice- chairperson Preeti Bhardwaj confirmed the development while Talking to The Pioneer on Saturday.
The Commission vice-chairperson said that the Commission had earlier issued a notice to Digvijay for his alleged indecent remarks on dancer-singer Sapna Chaudhary. In the notice, it was mentioned that Digvijay’s comment, which is claimed to have been published in newspapers and shown on TV has hurt the dignity of the women of the state. He was asked to file a reply within three days till Friday, failing which ex-parte action would be taken against him.
Bhardwaj said that Chautala has sent his reply to the Commission but the Women's Commission is not satisfied with Digvijay Chautala's reply. Taking serious note of it, the commission has summoned and asked him to appear personally before the commission on Monday. "Action will be taken as per our mandate if he does not appear before the commission on the date", she added.
Digvijay Singh, grandson of former Chief Minister OP Chautala, had apparently said: “Ab thumke lagane wali BJP ke liye votes layegi (Now, a dancer will bring votes for the BJP).â€
Chautala had also said that some people even called me anti-women about my statement. “I have not made any insulting comments about a woman. I respect Sapna Chaudhary but I also stand by my statement,†he said, adding.
Two days after Haryanvi dancer Sapna Choudhary joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, JJP leader Digvijay stirred a controversy when he apparently said that Sapna's art is vulgar and she can't make BJP win through her dance moves. Haryana cabinet minister Anil Vij and Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala had condemned the remark on Sapna Choudhary made by Digvijay as ‘inappropriate’. Vij termed it as an insult to women and demanded that Digvijay apologize to Sapna and all women and promise not to use this kind of language again.
Sources in the Haryana Women's Commission said that in his reply, Digvijay Chautala said that the word thumka has been used in Sapna Chaudhary's album. He said that he doesn’t think it's abusive word. However, the Women's Commission is not satisfied with Digvijay's reply.
Digvijay is the younger brother of former Member of Parliament Dushyant Chautala, who ahead of the Lok Sabha elections broke off ties with their grandfather and his party, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), and formed the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP).
During his recent interaction with media persons, Digvijay had attacked Sapna Chaudhary saying that her art is vulgar and it is not our culture.
