Eid celebrated under Covid shadow in Palamu

Tuesday, 26 May 2020 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

No faithful will ever wish this type of Eid to come again in the country chorused many Muslims saying, “This was the occasion when Hindu brothers used to hug us, wish us Eid Mubarak and we the faithful used to distribute charity in cash and kind to poor irrespective of their religion near the mosques before and after the Eid Namaz.”

As the mosques remained shut so was the charity too.

There was neither any fervour nor any gaiety except an observance of ritual a must after the end of Ramzan with all controlled passion and a sense of pulling on.

Sources said if anything that had chuckled or given any pleasure then it was an 8 point appeal by the SP Palamu Ajay Linda where the Palamu police said larger things with fewer words like do not give ears to rumour mongers as police are taking against hate posts on social media platform and in the event of any assistance from police just dial 100.

Palamu police’s appeal was emotional, friendly and aimed at people to make their own response rather than to imposition of anything by the police for the day today.

Say your Eid prayers at home and not at mosque or Eidgah but here police did not use any coercive language that people not doing this will have to face music rather it left it to the conscience of the practitioners of this faith to decide their own course of saying of prayers.

It reminded public as to why religious places are shut in this Covid 19.

Sources said as family discontent is on the rise police made an appeal to have a harmonious atmosphere in the homes. Family discontent cases where disputes are taking uglier shapes have made police invoke sections 323 and 325 in lsrge number of cases a fact conceded by SP Linda.

Linda said, “Our confidential section personnel worked on this appeal for the day today. The appeal was sent to all sensible and sensitive WhatsApp groups.”

On Sunday evening scores of Muslims sat in the Chainpur police station and assured SDPO Sandip Kumar Gupta, inspector R R Shahi and OC Sunit Kumar that Eid namaz will be said as per the protocol of health in this pandemic.
