No untreated effluent from drains should enter the Ganga river while septage management should be ensured in places not linked to sewer lines. In addition to this, action should be taken immediately to ensure septage management in Gangotri, Badrinath and Devprayag. The chief secretary Om Prakash issued these directions while chairing the ninth meeting of the State level Ganga committee at the secretariat on Tuesday.
Addressing the officials, the chief secretary said that transportation and processing of solid waste should be facilitated soon in towns which lack solid waste management system.
He also directed the urban local bodies concerned to facilitate processing and disposal of old garbage.
All the district development committees were also directed to ensure actions in accordance with guidelines of the National Green Tribunal.
The district magistrates of Tehri, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Haridwar were directed to ensure cleaning of rivers and hold regular meetings of district Ganga committees.
Additional secretary Uday Raj informed that 29 out of 32 sewage treatment plants had been constructed and were presently treating sewage.
One STP in Joshimath and two at Srikot are under construction. Principal secretary Anand Bardhan, secretary Nitesh Jha and Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) member secretary SP Subudhi were also present in the meeting.
