Even though the Dehradun district administration is yet to display LED light strings made by women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the market, the administration has already sold the light strings of worth Rs 50,000 from the LED training growth centre in Thano. Every year mostly the Chinese made LED light strings dominate the market before Diwali.

This year, the administration took an initiative to support the vocal for local campaign by providing training in making LED light strings to more than one hundred women of various SHGs of the district at the growth centre in Thano. In view of approaching Diwali festival, the Block Mission Manager (BMM) Rohit Nautiyal said that the administration will display the LED string lights made by these women in the main marketplaces, Vikas Bhawan and Pacific Mall from November 2.

He also informed that the administration has already sold several light strings worth Rs 50,000 by providing some light strings as per demand and from walk-ins at the growth centre. The officials informed that these light strings are waterproof and have better quality than the usual Chinese LED light strings. As informed by Nautiyal, the administration will display at least 4,000 light strings initially for sale in the market from November 2 and will update the stock as per the manufacturing in the center and demand in the market.
