Thursday, 18 June 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

An online lecture on ‘Eclipse and its Types’ based on Annular Solar Eclipse was held on Wednesday. It was organised by Regional Science Centre, Bhopal.

The Director of Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi Nandivada Rathnashree was keynote speaker on popular online lecture. Notably, Annular Solar Eclipse 2020 will occur on June 21.

An annular solar eclipse will occur on June 21, 2020. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun's, blocking most of the Sun's light and causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring). An annular eclipse appears as a partial eclipse over a region of the Earth thousands of kilometres wide.

Nandivada Rathnashree has done doctoral work in Astrophysics related to stellar evolution and also has an expirence in pulsars. Currently, she is the Director of Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi. She also does in astronomy outreach activities across the country.

She talked about annular eclipse and its types. She also talked about the similar eclipses and informed about its viewing and visibility. As it was a live session, an question answer session was held wherein she answered various queries of the students.
