Why do we need God?

Why do we need God?

Whether we accept it or not, we need God now more than at any other time. Only God knows the Big Picture, says AJIT KUMAR BISHNOI

Is this a question anymore? Has this virus not brought the world to its knees? What has happened to the rich and powerful? They have gone into hiding, afraid that they maybe stricken by the dangerous Corona. The rich are learning to exist without their retinue of help; they are beginning to realize that they are quite helpless really.

This feeling is a recent realisation, but the facts are all in support of the reality of us, souls, being small and helpless. Can we stop troubles from coming like this virus? Several countries have taken the unprecedented step of locking down. Still, there is spread of the diseases though limited due to internal mixing. Social distancing has been recommended in several other countries, but it is not that effective. Likewise, we cannot control events, for example fires in Australia and USA, which raged out of control earlier. Because, too many factors are beyond the control of human beings. Then, we are unable to obtain desired results. Wouldn’t we want vaccine and medication for this virus? But we are unable to do that at least for now.

On the subtle level, we are unable to gain sleep as desired, especially deep or sound sleep. Even the length of the sleep is out of our control. Sleep is a small matter, peace is bigger. How many of us are really peaceful? Not a big percentage. We are unable to stop worries, fears, etc from overpowering us. These cripple the mankind; people suffer helplessly. Why are there so many mental diseases? We lose our near and dear ones helplessly. Can you imagine the lifelong pain of a couple, who lost their two children in a tsunami? We are so small and helpless that we cannot stop ourselves from aging and then we die. Our identities change as we get into new bodies; we are no longer what we thought we were. Lastly, many of us cannot even relax — a simple activity without taking alcohol, which harms in so many ways.

Whether we accept this stark fact or not, we need God now more than at any other time. Only He can bail us out. We need God’s guidance because He only knows the Big Picture, that is the entirety of the situation. Otherwise, we are likely to make costly mistakes acting in panic. Personally, I seek God’s guidance and help every time a new problem appears. Believe me, God guides and helps because this is the Cosmic Design. How else can small souls exist well. Holistically speaking, we cannot survive well without God’s active help. We need God’s intervention more than we can imagine.

The present situation has played havoc with our moods. Mostly, the mode of darkness is reigning supreme, which causes fears, lamentation, depression, etc. The other two modes, that is goodness and passion are taking back seats. With God in the picture, they get boost and we are no longer so defeated and hopeless. When people ignore God, sacrifice, doing good to others, etc. go out of fashion. People indulge in sense gratification, some unlimitedly. And the result is degradation of the society. God is needed to correct this dangerous situation. A society is law abiding when there is enforcement of laws. Similarly, God is required to make people aware that the principle of karmaphala will be enforced. Similarly, God is needed to escape crippling punishment by taking. His shelter; He makes it manageable/tolerable.

Have you ever wondered about exalted devotees like Shankaracharya writing so glowingly about God? The answer is: God responded to them. This must have really surprised them in the beginning, i.e. God — the omnipotent bothering to pay attention to them. It is no wonder that they spoke so highly about God; they were simply overcome by emotions towards the munificent Lord. I am beginning to get a taste of same. This will explain why I keep on writing about our need to seek God.
