A total of 1,83,059 candidates from 28 states, eight union territories and twelve countries (Middle East, Indonesia, Nepal, Nigeria, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, UK and Singapore), have applied for Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) BTech. Admissions 2020. The chancellor of VIT, Dr G Viswanathan, said that admissions would be only on merit, based on the normalised PCM/ PCB marks, JEE/ SAT scores obtained by the candidates. These ranks are for admission to the 36 BTech and BDes programmes offered by VIT at its Vellore, Chennai, AP and Bhopal campuses.

The Hapur Pilkhua Development Authority (HPDA) will construct two hundred sixty-six EWS buildings under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. Archana Verma, newly appointed vice-president of HPDA, inspected the construction site of PM Awas Yojana, Hindalpur and Textile Centre schemes, Pilkhuwa. In addition, she reviewed various development plans of the authority and the ongoing enforcement work. “Under this scheme, the unauthorised constructors scheme is not availed. After the completion of the scheme, strict action will be ensured against them. There will be no commitment of any kind in the development of Hapur,” she said.

Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway held a high level meeting with senior metro officers at Metro Rail Bhavan on Tuesday to review the safety, security and other important augmentation activities currently going on in Metro Railway. During the meeting, he instructed all officials to complete passenger amenities augmentation works within the deadline.  He also took stock of the condition of rolling stock and other important items and advised to carry on tunnels and viaduct inspection works according to the schedule. Senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), a  production unit of Indian Railways turned out 31 electric locos in July. It cumulative stands for 62 locos of FY 2020-21, despite COVID-19 related restrictions and supply chain constraints. With active commitment and support of staff, this has given impetus to  the production line. It is expected that loco production will further gain momentum.

NTPC group’s monthly power generation rose by 13.3 percent to 26.73 BUs in the month of July compared to 23.59 BUs June. Its coal stations registered a growth of 5.6 percent on a YoY basis with generation of 21.89 BU compared to 20.74 BU in July’19. NTPC Korba (2600 MW) in Chhattisgarh achieved over 100 percent PLF during the month of July. With a total installed capacity of 62910 MW, the group has 70 power stations.
