Kirti Kulhari, Sayani Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo and Bani J talk about how the second season of Four More Shots Please! presents women who are flawed yet own their personalities with pride. By Team Viva

Gaining colossal fame among the netizens, Four More Shots Please! became the first all-women protagonist Indian web series, where their struggles against an unfair life, their jealousy, need for validation and a search for love, took the centrestage.

The makers of show have finally announced the release of its second season, starring Kirti Kulhari, Sayani Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo and Bani J. The show revolved around four best friends who tell the world to pay a little more attention to what women truly want. The second season is set to show their new mistakes but also that how they love each other more fiercely and choose themselves over society’s improbable demands.

Kirti, who plays a divorcee and a single mother, Anjana, says, “The concept of the series intrigued me from the first day. My excitement has doubled since the time we started the shoot of second season. I believe that this show will make each viewer see a little bit of themselves in every character. I really hope they will be able to connect with them, personally.”

Umang, played by Bani J, is all about taking life one casual hook-up at a time. She owns her sexuality and falls in love with a woman who isn’t ready to come out of the closet yet. Talking about her character, Bani says, “I’ve said this a couple times before that it felt serendipitous to me that I was approached to play Umang. It wasn’t because she has an affinity to lift weights but because of her journey, her story and this unshakable conviction with which she does things in her life — uprooting herself from home, being in love, being herself. The more time I get to play and be Umang, the more I am completely able to understand and create her. It’s an unusual and quite a cool experience for me — being able to play the same character for seasons in a go. It’s hard to explain but I think when people watch it, they’ll know it.”

For Maanvi, life has come full circle with this second season. She says, “The show, particularly Siddhi (her character), is very close to my heart. After being a part of it, I can now better understand Siddhi and her actions. She is a relatable person and acts as an inspiration each time she turns her weaknesses into her strengths. The show is certainly our labour of love.”

Sayani or the workaholic Damini feels great to come back in a familiar environment. She adds, “There is a special charm in reuniting with old co-actors and makers. The show has surpassed pre-conceived notions that a show made by women on women would be just about male-bashing. The show celebrates women who are different, not only in their looks but also personalities. They are flawed but they own it. It also celebrates women with agency, which is the need of the hour, and the fact that every girl should have the right to choose her life’s course, backed my education and strive for financial independence.”

(The series releases on April 17 on Amazon Prime Video.)
