The unrelenting second wave of Coronavirus on Friday claimed 14 more lives in Chandigarh even as the city added 406 new infections, taking the active tally to 5675, the union territory's health bulletin showed. With 406 more covid-19 cases reported in the city, its tally rose to 57,737. The death toll is now 680. The total number of samples tested in the last 24 hours was 3314 while the overall number of tests conducted was 477,484. Chandigarh recorded 790 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the bulletin showed.
Meanwhile, five more Black Fungus patients on Friday were admitted at PGIMER, Chandigarh taking the figure to 21 in the institute.
CoWIN PORTAL FOR 18+ VACCINATION EVERYDAY AT 10 AM
UT Adviser Manoj Parida on Friday said that the administration has decided to open CoWIN portal for 18+ vaccination everyday at 10 am in Chandigarh. Parida said, “If there are more than 100 beneficiaries in the 45+ age category then they can invite us and we will hold camps for them at a place of their choosing. People above the age of 18, will have to come to our 61 government centres.”
In all, 4270 more people were vaccinated on Friday in Chandigarh, taking the total count to 306,278 as per the UT health department’s medical bulletin. Meanwhile, Director of Health services, Dr Amandeep Kang said that Chandigarh has revised its policy and decided to increase the total number of vaccine slots from 2000 to 3000 and take it up to 4000 slots for beneficiaries in the 18 to 45-year category. More people can come and get their vaccines as the number of slots will be increased, she said.
WEEKEND CURFEW TO CONTINUE IN CHANDIGARH
The UT Administration on Friday once again imposed a weekend curfew in the city. Morning walks, however, will be allowed between 6 am and 9 am, provided walkers wear masks and follow Covid protocols. All shops dealing in essential supplies will remain open for home delivery until 2 pm.
