The Union Territory of Chandigarh on Thursday reported 108 fresh Covid cases.  With this, the total case tally reached 22,697 while the active cases were 857 till evening, according to the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.

Meanwhile, no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours and the death toll stood at 357 in the city.  In the last 24 hours, 53 males and 55 female residents were found infected with Covid-19. A maximum of seven fresh cases surfaced in both Sector 15 and Sector 38 each.

65 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 21,481. 2.73 lakh samples have so far been tested in the city. A total of 1,341 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and the report of 113 was awaited, the bulletin added.

Keeping in view the sudden surge in positive cases, the Administration had a day before decided to put restrictions on gatherings allowing 100 people or 50 per cent of the capacity of the venue for indoor gatherings while the number is kept at 200 for outdoor gatherings. The Administration had also decided to keep primary schools closed until the situation improves.

Meanwhile, 950 residents turned up at 20 sites across the city to get the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination on Thursday. Among them, 697 people above the age of 60 years, 127 people between the age of 45-60 years with co-morbidities, 21 frontline workers and 26 healthcare workers were inoculated.  12 HCWs and 67 FLWs also received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
