Chandigarh to start vaccination for those above 18 from today

Vaccination to people aged 18-45 in Chandigarh will start from Friday. The Centre Government on Wednesday had allotted 33,000 vaccines for this age group against the demand of one lakh vaccines by the UT Administration.

UT Adviser Manoj Parida on Thursday said that the vaccination for above 18 population is being rolled out gradually in phases.  In addition to the existing vaccination venues in the government sector, additional venues have been opened in a few schools, exclusively for this age group of beneficiaries. 

The details of the venues will be intimated individually to the beneficiaries while booking the slot. The beneficiaries may check their time slot online as vaccinations will be administered in a phased manner to avoid crowding at different venues. However, the priority has to be given to above 45 persons waiting for the second dose keeping in view the limited vaccines available now, he added.

 

10 DEATHS, 760 NEW CASES IN CHD

With 760 more Covid-19 new cases reported in Chandigarh on Thursday, the total tally in the city shot up to 53,393 while 10 more deaths were reported over the last 24 hours. The city now has 8441 active cases, according to a medical bulletin. The total number of samples tested in the last 24 hours was 3557 while the overall number of tests conducted was 451,453. While cases were reported from all sectors, Manimajra reported 72 new cases. As many as 837 people were discharged from various facilities of the city. Moreover, 4057 more people were vaccinated on Wednesday in Chandigarh, taking total count to 269,100, the bulletin stated.  Meanwhile, the Chandigarh administration on Thursday decided to continue wth the weekend corona curfew from 5 am, Saturday (May 15) to 5 am, Monday (May 17). Certain essential categories shall be exempted from the curfew.

UT Adviser Manoj Parida on Thursday said that more than 100 beds with doctors, nurses, medicines and oxygen facility are available in various Mini Covid Care Centres set up in the city. Any resident can directly approach them for diagnosis, medication or admission.  In another development, PGIMER Chandigarh said it has received 25 ventilators under the PM Cares Fund from the Central Government.  PGIMER officials said that all the received ventilators have been installed and are being used for Covid-19 patients admitted in the institution.
