Thursday, 29 July 2021 | RAJESH BEHERA | KENDRAPADA

Life has become a hell for this ill-fated visually impaired woman as she has been finding it hard to stay afloat.

Though the Government has implemented several poverty alleviation schemes, including providing subsidised food grains under the Food Security Act to support the distressed, but she has not been able to avail the benefits as she could not have her Aadhaar number.

Meet middle aged Khirodini Das, a resident of Rajapur village under Pattamundai block .When she was an infant, she lost her father and her mother also passed away when she was only six years. She struggled to collect her bread ever since. Presently, she is leading a miserable life and living in a ramshackle thatched house.

She is eligible to get subsidised food grains under NFSA or SFSA, but she is yet to avail the benefit for not having a ration card. Whether for a ration card or any other Government sponsored benefits, Aadhaar card is a must what she has not prepared yet.

“Though I had tried at least thrice by visiting to Aadhar centre to get an Aadhaar card, but it was in vain. My name was earlier enrolled in ration card but as I do not have Aadhaar number, my name was deleted. It’s my ill fate,” lamented Khirodini.

“Neither the political people nor the administration showed any sympathy towards me to provide an Aadhaar card. So I am now deprived of all Government support including subsidised rice, monthly pension etc,” she added.

When contacted, Pattamundai BDO Bharat Chandra Parida stated that the matter was yet to come to his notice. However, he assured to take all necessary steps to get Khirodini her Aadhaar number and other entitlements.
