Haryana’s 4th Regional Forensic Science Lab starts functioning

Wednesday, 24 February 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana’s fourth Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has started functioning in Hisar and it will help expedite crime investigations, a spokesperson of the state police department said on Tuesday.

Three such laboratories are already functional at Bhondsi in Gurgaon, Sunaria in Rohtak and Moginand in Panchkula, besides the main facility at Madhuban.

The spokesperson said that the new FSL has started receiving samples related to various criminal cases for examination in the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, toxicology and serology divisions since February 12. He said that the laboratory would receive samples from four districts -- Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa and police district Hansi.

“The objective of establishing the regional lab is to ensure a more efficient investigation process using scientific methods. This would ensure timely preparation of reports and hence disposal of cases,” the official said.

“Earlier, the four districts which will now come under FSL, Hisar were dependent on FSL, Madhuban for forensic expertise,” he added. According to the official, investigations were getting delayed as police personnel would spend a lot of time commuting to deposit a case and receive its report. “Now with the regional lab becoming functional, results will be available at the earliest, expediting the whole investigation process,” he said,” he said.
