A special POCSO court in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Wednesday sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment until death for raping his 13-year-old daughter between August 2014 and July 2019.
Although the crime was committed over the years, the case was lodged in 2019.
First Fast Track Special POCSO and Additional Sessions Judge Shubhra Pachouri ordered the man to remain in jail for the rest of his life, Special Public Prosecutor Kamal Kishore Verma told The Pioneer over telephone.
The man lived in a village in Durg district with his family including wife, son and daughter.
According to the prosecution, he repeatedly raped his daughter between August 2014 and July 2019 whenever his wife was at work. The girl finally complained to her uncle.
In August 2019, the family lodged a case, leading to the man's arrest.
After examining the evidence, the judge pronounced the sentence including five years of rigorous imprisonment.
