Tata Power-DDL organises power theft awareness session

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) in collaboration with Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised an interactive awareness session on the consequences of electricity theft and its Penal impact for the consumers.

More than 100 Tata Power-DDL consumers participated in the awareness programme. A number of topics such as power theft scenarios like tapping the electricity network, cable, service wires; tampering with the meter to abstract energy; damaging or destroying electricity meter; using tampered meter, and using electricity for unsanctioned purpose were discussed at length.

The consumers who attended the session were also informed that electricity theft is a cognizable and non-bailable offense with serious consequences (under the Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003). The convict shall be liable to pay theft/penalty bill twice the applicable tariff for a period of 12 months preceding the date of detection of offense and could also face imprisonment for up to three years.
