Governor Mangubhai Patel has said role of audit is important in ensuring transparency of all types of financial transactions and in compliance with arrangements to prevent wastage of public money. The Audit Department has a rich and glorious history of 160 years. Governor Shri Patel virtually addressed the closing ceremony of the Audit Week on Friday.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Shri Patel said that he has taken initiative to celebrate 16 November as Audit Day from last year in honour of the glorious history of Audit Department.
Governor Patel said that the main feature of the democratic system is to maintain harmony in all its major organs including the legislature. The Audit Department discharges the important and challenging responsibility of fixing the accountability of the Government and other public authority for the expenditure of public money for the Parliament and State Legislatures and making information available in this regard to the general public.
In fact, audit is an important means of legislative control over financial administration by being a tool to enforce accountability of the administration to the legislature. Governor Patel said that the strict standards of audit should be followed with more care, so that the integrity of the audit should not be affected due to loss estimates or exterior data during the audit.
Governor Patel said that for the successful discharge of their duties by the officers and employees of the Audit and Accounts Department, it is necessary to follow the constitutional duties and assigned responsibilities with complete devotion, while always staying alert.
He said that the officers-employees of audit have an important role in ensuring the use of national resources effectively in the interest of the poor and needy. Governor Shri Patel said that the officers and employees should work with mutual sympathy and consideration to serve the poorest of the poor and bring smile on their faces. Congratulating the officers-employees of the audit, he said that their cooperation would contribute significantly in accelerating the present pace of development, welfare of the deprived sections of the society and nation-building.
