BHEL develops Bus Potential Transformer Module for 33kV GIS

Tuesday, 15 February 2022 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

Switchgear Engineering division of BHEL, Bhopal  has first time indigenously designed & developed a compact and cost effective Bus Potential Transformer Module for 33 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear(GIS). The Module obviates need for Separate PT panel in GIS Switchboard.

In the existing design, a separate PT panel was provided, having size, weight and cost same as a regular feeder panel. The new Top mounted Bus PT Module is Indigenously Developed first time by any Indian GIS manufacturer. New PT Module is successfully developed, installed and commissioned at a substation site (HVPNL, Sector - 107 Gurugram, Haryana).

Cost saving of 57% is achieved by the new development. In addition, Panel size and weight is reduced by 80%, compared to conventional PT panel. In addition to this, it is also an environment friendly design, since as it consumes less Sulphur Hexa Fluoride(SF6)  gas and reduces equipment footprint area.

Moreover, cost of PT panel is reduced by developing Gas PT under Make In India and Aatmanirbar Bharat Initiatives of Government of India. Cost of PT is reduced upto 90% by using indigenous PT. Patent has been granted to BHEL for the above design.

The Project Team for the above included Arun Kumar (Leader), Krishna Prasad, R.R. Rahi, Anil Nagpure and Sujit Jaisawal.
