Demands ignored, Kirtan artists take to streets

Friday, 24 June 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Thousands of Kirtan Kalakars led by their association State president Er Debashisha Hota again demonstrated at Bhubaneswar demanding extension of  “Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana” benefits to 4,000 each from Dhenkanal and Angul districts.

They also demanded CM Naveen Patnaik for a hike in monthly monetary assistance to Rs 5,000 and for lowering the age limit to 30 years.

On March 28, the Kirtan Kalakars had demonstrated at Bhubaneswar pressing these demands. But till now, their demands have not been fulfilled.

A total of 7,897 Kirtan artists of Dhenkanal district and 7,600 of Angul district have applied for “Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana”. But, the quota is only limited to 200  each for both the districts.

"This is too less than the number of total applicants. I request the CM to fulfil all our demands by today without any further delay," Er Hota told.
