JNU approves exit option for students of dual-degree prog

Tuesday, 05 July 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Academic Council of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has approved the exit option for the students of the dual-degree programme in the School of Engineering. The facility is now available for students who have been admitted to the four-year BTech, one-year MTech, MS programme from the 2018-19 batch onwards. The decision was taken at the 160th meeting of the Academic Council, which is the main academic authority of the university and is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The students who have taken admission in the dual degree programme of JNU engineering courses and have successfully completed the course are eligible for the exit option. The exit option for students from any degree courses was introduced by the central government through the new National Education Policy 2020. Under NEP 2020, students of undergraduate degree courses can exit the course and enter within a stipulated period without missing the credits earned during the previous session.

In a notification dated July 1, Deputy Registrar (Evaluations) Manoj Kumar Manuj noted that the students who have successfully completed their BTech degree can avail the exit option."Acting in the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Academic Council in its 160(A) meeting held on 01.06.2022, vide item No.3(xii), has approved to offer the exit option to the students of dual degree (four-year B.Tech and one-year M.Tech/MS) programme in the School of Engineering admitted from 2018-2019 batch onward," the notification read.

This year, Jawaharlal Nehru University will admit students through Common University Entrance Test, or CUET 2022. The entrance examination for undergraduate courses is slated to commence from July 15, 2022. The admit card for the same is likely to be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) shortly on the official websites- cuet.samarth.ac.in and nta.ac.in. Aspirants waiting for the CUET admit card 2022 would be required to enter their login credentials to download the admit card online from the official site. The NEP, approved by the Union Cabinet, replaced the 34-year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986. It is aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in schools and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.

A choice between three-year and four-year undergraduate courses, multiple entry and exit options in degree courses, adding 3.5 crore seats in higher education institutions, which will now have a single regulator, discontinuation of M.Phil programmes and fixation of fees are among the higher education reforms outlined in the NEP.
