KU first in Haryana to Implement NEP

Wednesday, 03 August 2022 | PNS | Kurukshetra

The online admission process of Undergraduate programmes under National education Policy (NEP)-2020 will kick start in Kurukshetra University’s Institute of Integrated and Honours Studies (IIHS) from August 3.

There are1400 seats for admissions in humanities, science, commerce, tourism, computer, home science, and five-year integrated programmes in IIHS. NEP will be implemented in all affiliated colleges of KU from the session 2023.

The Undergraduate programmes as per NEP have been designed after long deliberations by KU’s education experts and other important stakeholders. The NEP liberates education and makes education student-centric. The students will be given the option of a 4- year graduation degree in Honours and Research. Students will have the option not only to go for dual-degree but also choose courses across the disciplines, for example, a science student can opt for humanities and science courses and vice versa now. "The students will be required to do a minimum of 4 credits of skill courses, 12 credits in subject specific skills and 4 credits in life skills,” Vice Chancellor Somnath  Sachdeva said.

He said the policy focuses on conceptual learning, critical thinking, and students’ holistic development in both academic and non-academic spheres. Impetus is also provided for gaining knowledge from digital platforms of UGC, Mobile Apps, satellite-based TV channels, online courses, MOOCs (Swayam) modules and ICT-equipped libraries. The Higher Education Department headed by ACS Anand Mohan Sharan is providing all out support to KU in the implementation of NEP 2020, Sachdeva added.
