Happiness is not a destination

Happiness is not a destination

It must be regarded as a journey spanning the entirety of one’s life

Similar to any other journey, whether it is by air, rail or any mode of transportation, it encompasses numerous ups and downs. The experience varies for each individual, as reactions to circumstances differ from person to person. Throughout life, we encounter many positive events. However, we often tend to swiftly forget these moments of happiness as we eagerly look forward to the next stage of our journey. For instance, when a child is born, joy is abundant. Yet, before long we shift our focus to the next milestones like crawling, sitting, standing and walking.

This tendency transcends into all aspects of life, including business, employment and personal ventures. Each time we find happiness in achievement, we quickly begin seeking the next one, inadvertently failing to fully appreciate and enjoy the present moment. Conversely, when faced with obstacles during this journey, they can often loom large, seemingly insurmountable. Even minor setbacks can feel overwhelming and consume a significant portion of our lives. However, it is vital to approach each failure or hurdle with the right mindset and allocate appropriate time for reflection. Some failures or obstacles may be inconsequential and can be safely ignored. Others, however, can be seen as valuable lessons and opportunities for growth.

Moreover, actively seeking happiness can significantly enhance our experience. Spending quality time with family can serve as an abundant source of joy. Interacting with children and even embracing our inner childlike qualities can invigorate our spirits. Engaging in activities with children not only imparts wisdom but also brings immeasurable happiness. Taking them for an outing with us can be truly rewarding.

Maintaining contact with friends can also contribute to our happiness. Reminiscing about old times and going down memory lane brings immense joy, although it may not always be possible to meet frequently, making the effort to do so whenever feasible, is quite important. Even sporadic rendezvous is better than none at all.

Pursuing hobbies is another avenue for finding happiness. Despite our busy schedule, setting aside time to engage in activities we love, is crucial. By planning our activities accordingly, we can create space for our passion. Differentiating between work and play is essential. While work may bring success, financial

gains and material comforts, true happiness is not dependent on such external factors. Happiness is derived from intangible aspects of life.

Happiness is not solely confined to external circumstances or achievements; it also stems from within, cultivating inner happiness involves nurturing a positive mindset, embracing gratitude and finding contentment in the present moment. It requires recognising that happiness is not subject to achieving specific goals or the accumulation of material possessions, but rather to one’s ability to appreciate and drive joy from the simple pleasures of life. Practising mindfulness can greatly contribute to our happiness journey. By being fully present in each moment and acknowledging the beauty and wonders around us, we can develop a deeper appreciation for life. In conclusion, happiness is a journey that lasts a lifetime.
