4300 MLAs across country to attend national conference

Tuesday, 09 May 2023 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

About 4300 legislators from all over the country have been invited to the National Legislators' Conference, which will begin on June 15 in Mumbai, and will hold three days of in-depth discussion on various topics related to parliamentary affairs.

Madhya Pradesh Vidhansabha Speaker Girish Gautam gave this information during a press conference in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly auditorium. Senior MLA PC Sharma, Krishna Gaur, Principal Secretary Vidhan Sabha AP Singh and senior office bearers of Pune based prestigious institute MIT-SOG Rahul V Karad were also present on the occasion.

Assembly Speaker Gautam, who played an important role in this event to be organized at the state-of-the-art Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai, said that so far consent of about 1800 MLAs has been received to participate in this program organized from June 15 to June 17. About 100 MLAs of Madhya Pradesh are included in this.

He said that this type of event is being organized for the first time in the country and efforts are also being made to connect the MLAs emotionally.

Gautam said that in the first general election held in the country in the year 1952, the number of voters was around 17 crore and out of them more than 10 crore voted. At present, despite better literacy and various awareness programs, the voting percentage remains around 65 to 70 percent on an average. He said that definitely not increasing the polling percentage relatively is a matter of contemplation and there is a possibility of deep discussion on this issue during the conference.

Gautam, who had earlier visited Mumbai regarding preparations for this event, said that various sessions will be held during the conference and subjects related to parliamentary work will also be decided for them. He told that a better innovation has been made in Madhya Pradesh Vidhansabha to give opportunity to ask questions only to first time MLAs and women MLAs during Question Hour on a particular day. This will also be told during this conference.

Gautam said that there can be differences between leaders in politics, but there should not be differences of opinion. On the basis of this basic mantra, the MLAs participating in the conference will be able to express their experiences and views openly. He said that preparations for the conference are being done on a wide scale.

In response to a question, Gautam said that he was in favor of providing adequate staff to the legislators in view of the prevailing conditions and this issue should also be discussed during this conference. Sharing his experience related to his recent visit to the North Eastern states, he said that the MLAs there believe in working in unison for the development of their region and the state. He has liked this very much.
