Sikhs from all walks of life gathered in the city to commemorate the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Guru of Sikhism. The occasion was marked by prayers, hymns, and a heartfelt call for peace and unity, reflecting the teachings of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
Guru Arjan Dev Ji, who lived from 1563 to 1606, was a spiritual leader and a visionary. He played a crucial role in shaping the Sikh community and promoting the values of compassion, equality, and peace. However, his unwavering commitment to his faith led to his martyrdom on this fateful day.
The programme at all the 33 gurudwaras in the city began with devotees paying their respects, where the atmosphere was filled with devotion and reverence. The sound of prayers echoed through the halls, as Sikhs recited verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism. The serenity of the gathering was a testament to the enduring impact of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's teachings on the Sikh community.
Prominent Sikh leaders and scholars delivered speeches, highlighting the importance of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's sacrifice and the lessons that can be learned from his life. They emphasized the need to embrace peace, harmony, and understanding in a world often plagued by conflicts and divisions.
Speaking at the event, Gurpratap Sing, a respected Sikh scholar, said, "Guru Arjan Dev Ji's martyrdom was a profound act of sacrifice, driven by a commitment to upholding truth and justice. It is our duty as Sikhs to carry forward his message of peace and to work towards building a society where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity."
The event also provided an opportunity for interfaith dialogue, with representatives from various religious communities in attendance. They expressed solidarity with the Sikh community and praised the efforts of Guru Arjan Dev Ji in promoting interfaith harmony during his lifetime.
The commemoration concluded with a langar, a community meal, where volunteers served free meals to all attendees, irrespective of their background. This tradition symbolizes the Sikh principle of seva (selfless service) and reflects Guru Arjan Dev Ji's emphasis on equality and inclusivity.
