Punjab to soon implement policy to prevent women’s exploitation in foreign lands

Punjab Government will soon implement the new policy to prevent the exploitation of Punjabi women aboard, especially those who have suffered due to the misguidance by the travel agents.
 
The state’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, addressing a gathering during the marathon discussion wherein Local Government Minister Balkar Singh, MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann, Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma, and a large number of women from different districts of Punjab participated, said that the voice raised by the victims would get due consideration in the policy formation so that the interest of women could be safeguard on priority basis.
 
Sharing the grief of the victims, she assured them that the Punjab Government would take stern action to prevent such frauds in the future.
 
During the discussion, some victim-women said that the agents gave them assurance of a safe and respectable job abroad before sending them to a foreign country where they had nothing but to suffer.
 
Dr Baljit said that such unfortunate incidents and exploitation of the women from Punjab would not be tolerated by the State Government and strict legal amendments will be made to prevent these.
 
“The biggest problem that has come to fore during discussion is the frauds by the travel agents, and the Punjab Government will end such practices by cracking down heavily on unauthorized agents,” she said.
 
Emphasizing on the women empowerment, she said that efforts would be made to provide maximum benefits to women through the ongoing 'Sakhi One Stop Center' scheme in Punjab.
