Thursday, 25 April 2024 | Mohit Kandhari | JAMMU

With the second round of campaigning ending, the stage is set for another close contest between the Bharatiya Janta Party and the Congress party on the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat on April 26.

The Congress party candidate Raman Bhalla is locked in a close contest with the two-time sitting BJP MP Jugal Kishore Sharma. Ankur Sharma of Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal is also in the fray.

Over 17.80 lakh voters will decide the fate of 22 candidates from the seat spread over 18 Assembly segments in four districts including Reasi, Samba, Jammu, and Rajouri.

On the last day of campaigning the congress party demonstrated its strength by taking out a massive road show. The BJP on the other hand focused on reaching out to the voters on ground zero. Several senior party leaders and BJP star campaigners, camping in Jammu addressed a series of street corner meetings in a last-minute effort to woo the electorate.

Jammu district with over 11.89 lakh voters and 11 Assembly constituencies is turning out to be the hot spot as all the contesting candidates are trying to woo the majority of voters to romp home safely.

The border belt of Samba and RS Pura form a sizable voter base to tilt the balance in support of the winning candidate.

Reasi district with three Assembly Constituencies, is going to play a significant role in the final tally of voters.

The Election Commission has made elaborate security arrangements to instill confidence among the electorate to improve the total voter turnout.
