Mamata attacks Modi

Thursday, 25 April 2024 | Saugar Sengupta | BURDWAN

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday warned the people against voting the BJP saying if Narendra Modi returned to power then there would be no democracy left in India and no elections would take place after that as India would be a dictatorship.

Notwithstanding, Mamata's leniency towards other senior BJP leaders like Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari was worth noticing, particularly during election times even as she wondered why the BJP's would not fall on "better leaders like Gadkari and Singh who too were senior," and equally efficient.

Launching a scathing attack on Modi, Mamata said, "If this an election to elect Modi babu to power then rest assured there will be no election after this if he returns and India will turn into a dictatorship where the ED and CBI and NIA will reign supreme and where everything will be sold out from government concerns to your culture to your food and two your country."

Addressing two rallies in Birbhum and Burdwan Banerjee said how Rajnath Singh had raised his concern about the TMC's objections to the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act. "My question is Rajnath ji is a good and decent person and a senior too then why did the BJP not make him the Prime Minister or for that matter Nitin Gadkadi ji … instead of these decent people the rioters whose hands are red with blood are ruling the country today," she said.

Questioning the alleged dictation on food habits in BJP-ruled states she said, "in Madhya Pradesh they have stopped eating fish and in Rajasthan they are not letting people eat eggs … my question is I too like vegetarian and Dhokla but can you force me to eat that … remember 80 percent of Indians are non-vegetarians … then how can you dictate their food habits … even we do not take non-veg during our pujas but you cannot dictate us regarding what we will eat and what we will wear."
